Major depression is a sense of hopelessness or despair in individuals to the degree of interfering with daily functioning. Major depression impacts approximately 5% of individuals nationwide every year (Hasin, Goodwin, Stinson, Grant 2005). As we can see below, nearly 50% of the participants reported feeling depressed after experiencing cyber-sexual assault. This was expected since nearly half (13% to 51%) of sexual assault victims also develop depression (Campbell et al., 2009; Clum et al., 2000; Ullman & Vasquez, 2015).
